Thanks to Judie HAZELL Glenn for sharing her story with us.

Like many of us, Judie’s life has been full of twists and turns since leaving Bitburg.

I left Germany after I turned 19 (in 1969) and went to live with a pen pal in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  I worked secretarial positions, did a little modeling and took some college courses at night.  I moved around a bit in my early 20's - to Ottumwa, Iowa, back to Cedar Rapids and finally to Des Moines where I worked as a Sales Coordinator for WHO TV.

I was hired by Northwest Airlines as a flight attendant in 1973 and flew domestic and international flights for 3 years, based in Minneapolis.  It's something I had always wanted to do.  At 26, I married a pilot and within two years we moved to Clearwater, Florida (near Tampa - on the West coast).

The hard times began when I started having panic attacks and eventually became Agoraphobic.  In 1978 little was known about panic disorder so I was pretty much on my own, struggling to find out what was wrong with me and then crawling up from under it.  My marriage failed during the process because my former husband didn't understand.  Panic disorder and Agoraphobia weren't really named until a couple of years after I started having problems.

I wrote for publications that supported people with my problem, researched everything I could get my hands on - talked to my doctor about new drugs that were soon to be available - and never gave in to it.  I began to recover in 1983 and have had no problems in the past 20 years!

After my divorce, I put myself through college (the marriage lasted 6 years).  I began working for Brown and Bigelow in 1985 as a sales representative selling promotional advertising.  Basically, I helped businesses to build their business through "good will".  This included calendars, coffee mugs, pens, mousepads, bags, and the like. I developed incentive and recognition programs, and after 3 years with B&B I incorporated my own company.

Today, Judie Glenn Inc. is celebrating 16 years.  We were just chosen as Business of the Year in the small business category by the Upper Tampa Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce.  There are 4 of us (Four Star Team),  and we work with such accounts as the Nielsen TV Ratings, Aegon Equity Group, two local colleges, the county school system and 435 other clients.

I never remarried - too many years of dating, and I was devoted to building a successful business.  I like being single, am very independent and on my 50th birthday, moved into my dream house on the Gulf of Mexico in Palm Harbor, Florida.  It's a 3-story townhouse, and our office is the entire 1st floor.

I work out twice a week, have never had any health problems and count myself very lucky!  I'm involved in paper arts and art stamping which is my outlet.  I garden and read and spend time with my sister (who has worked with me for 15 years).  I took my sister Alice to Scotland and London for her 50th birthday, am very close to all 3 of my sisters - and just live life to the fullest each and every day.
