A Message from the Chairman of the Board

As we have established in our association’s by-laws, the Steering Committee’s primary purpose is to get us to this point in order to have a great and memorable gathering every 3 Years.  Every place where we have held a reunion has had something different to offer, aside from the gathering itself, and has made each one memorable to me.  Several volunteers have devoted much of their personal time to make our reunions a special event.  We are always looking for volunteers to help the association between reunions and during reunions.  At each reunion, usually on Saturday morning, we have class meetings and a general membership meeting.  At this time we choose the steering committee including class reps for the three years between reunion.  I would ask that you give some thought to volunteering to help in any way possible. Without our volunteers, this BHS Alumni Association cannot continue to exist.

This newsletter will concentrate heavily on the 2006 Reunion in order for you to have plenty of time to make your plans to attend.  Also, there will be many points of contact mentioned in the newsletter that are available to help with any questions you may have regarding the reunion, volunteering, about the planned events, how to get there, and how much it will cost.  We will have information on who plans to attend, as it gets closer, in case you want to coordinate with any of them on transportation or rooms.  I recommend that you contact your fellow alumni to encourage their attendance.  Almost all of our reunions have become family affairs, as well, so we do invite families to come and take advantage of the great rates and the events in the local area.

The BHS Alumni Association requests annual contributions in order to carry on the business between reunions like mailings, Alumni Rosters, Website, etc.  We ask for $25.00 a year from the alumni membership in order to maintain financial operations.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MAILING ADDRESS ON THE CONTRIBUTION FORM

HAS CHANGED.

We pay no salaries, but whenever possible we try to reimburse the volunteers for out of pocket expenses.  Over the years, we have tried to keep those expenses to a minimum.

Please take the time to complete our new online survey so that we can collect feedback on decisions we have made recently.  We also use the survey to solicit help from members who may be interested in contributing their time to our organization.  In every group, 10% of the members seem to do 90% of the work and ours is no different.  You can see from our Officers and Representatives page that several positions are vacant and need to be filled.  All assistance will be much appreciated.

I hope to see as many of you as possible at our next reunion, and I am sure it will be a great time for all, as they have been in the past.

                                                                 Regards,  Bernie

The Bitburg High School Alumni Association for 1963 – 1970 is quickly preparing and moving toward our 2006 Reunion.  We have contracted a site in the Northwestern part of Georgia, in the proximity of Helen, Georgia, and as you can see in links located in this newsletter, it is a beautiful setting.  This newsletter contains most of the information you will need to help you decide to attend next June.  We are hoping that we have selected the right time and place to encourage maximum attendance.
