More Scuttlebutt

Julie Penrose Vallejos ‘65

Thank you once again for having chosen me for the Rep for 1965. If I can be of any help to you fellow '65ers please email me. The reunion was once again a success. Thanks to all for all the hard work.  Sharon and I danced through the night not knowing what was coming in the next few weeks. We had a a wonderful turnout for the class of ‘65 with many first timers. They were, Bill Shepard,  Pat (Denson) Niesz, Ed Fosse, and many more.

It was a great four days at the reunion, I hope that all of the 63-70 alums can be together for the next reunion.  We are all getting to the age where we need to connect with one another.  I love all of you and thank God that we are having these wonderful times together. Anyway, I know all of us have families, but it is always great to see our fellow classmates whenever we can. It gives me a high for that moment (3-4 days) and then we have built new memories. At least I know we are all OK until the next time.

Love, Julie

After 39 years (can you believe that number) we finally made the decision to get together with the old gang from the teen club at this year’s San Diego Reunion.  What a great time we had, and other than a mini reunion in L.A. around 1980, we now wish we would have made others.

I know that family, business, commitments, and cash flow sometimes dictates our lives and schedules but it's not going to be that long into the future that these are the memories we'll have forever.  Don't be reluctant to attend the next one because you don't look like you did in the yearbook or fit in the letter sweater (I still do) you once were so proud to wear.

Even if you can't remember someone's name or you don't recognize the person you sat next to in Bernie Guerin's civics class or sweated with in Coach Fugate's practices - It doesn't matter.  After ten minutes of hashing over old times, it comes back.  You recognize that person behind the gray hair or the few extra pounds and renew the common interests we had and cherish them together.

We were a fortunate few who's parents sacrificed much during those Cold War years and in retrospect had our values shaped to sustain us when we returned to the states and realized how lucky we were to have our future values shaped in such a solid way.  As much bitching as we did when we were over there, how well did it prepare us to be who we are today. So if the opportunity remotely presents itself for you to attend the next reunion - do whatever you can to make it - you won't be sorry or disappointed.

My many thanks and appreciation to all those volunteers who worked tirelessly to put on a great event.  With all the details involved, even when it seems like a thankless task, my hat's off to you guys.  Thank you!

The chow was wonderful, the entertainment - one of the best rock & oldies groups I've ever heard, and my former team-mate, Pat Stacker still doesn't have any gray hair, although he still dances like a white boy.  Of course, I'm still as good as ever, especially since my beautiful Cuban wife has added salsa to our repertoire.

Anne Marie, I'm not going to be like the Fonz and have trouble getting "I'm sorry" out of my mouth. Thanks for your persistence.  Alina & I love you for the bulldog in you. Hoping to see you all soon and often.

Dr. Michael Dietzsch, Bitburger Pils’ top executive, will retire on May 31, 2004, following 34 years of service.  While Dr. Dietzsch’s leadership has been a major force in Bitburger Pils becoming a world leader in the brewing industry, he has also been a major force in supporting the Bitburger Pils’ generous sponsorship of our Bitburg High School Alumni Association since the very early days when the Association was founded in the 1980’s.  Dr. Dietzsch attended the BHS reunion in Vail, CO in 1987.  From that date forward he has been a dedicated advocate of Bitburger Pils sponsorship for the BHS Association.  From the many gifts of Bitburger Pils memorabilia and many 1000’s of cases of complimentary Bitburger Pils donated at each BHS reunion over the past 17 years to hosting a group of BHS alumni in Bitburg in 1992, Dr. Dietzsch has been a world class ambassador of good will between Germany and the USA.

The BHS Alumni Association would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Dietzsch with a special retirement gift, and are asking each alumn to contribute $25.00 (or whatever amount you feel comfortable donating).  Please make your check out to: BHS Alumni Association (with a note it’s for Dr. Dietzsch’s retirement gift) and send it to our Treasurer:
